The chances are if you are looking here, you probably have your own reason for considering a guided Lake District walk. Below are some of the more common reasons for wanting this, along with some added benefits that maybe you haven’t considered.

Navigation – this is probably the most common reason for wanting a walking guide. Many of us want to explore more of the countryside and go on nice walks, but are not confident on where to go, how to plot a route, and how to navigate safely once out and about. And even if you can, many do not want to. By hiring a walking guide you take all the stress out of this aspect, allowing you to take your head out of your map or phone and enjoy the surroundings that you came to see, safe in the knowledge you’ll make it back to the pub before last orders!

Route choice - Try googling nice walks in the Lake District and see how many page results there are! Many people simply don’t know where to start with picking a walking route, and not surprisingly, it’s an absolute minefield! One of the beauties of the Lake District is the limitless number of cracking walks and locations within a small place. This strength can also however make it slightly stressful trying to pick where to start. My Lake District guided walks give a good idea of what is included and how long the walk will be. Simply pick what suits you and make sure you can get to the start point, then enjoy!

Company – sometimes a walk on our own can be lovely, but this is not for everyone. First time adventurers, solo travellers, those nervous exploring on their own or simply those wanting to meet like-minded people, joining a guided group walk is a great way to share the experience with others, even if it’s just me!

Learning new skills – Whilst my walks are not designated navigation courses, there is absolutely room to learn new skills. Want to learn how to plan these walks yourself? Test your map skills? Learn the basics of map reading? Want advice on the best apps? No problem! I love sharing knowledge and advice, so pick my brains and let me help you towards being more confident in your own outdoor adventures.

Education and interest – You may be able to walk around that lake on your own, but do you know how it got it’s name? How the Lake District landscape was formed? When it was first habited? Or what that bird is flying overhead? Education and (I like to think) interesting fact sharing is a big part of these guided walks and an added benefit for many. From geology to history, flora to farming, conservation to pub recommendations, each walk will be sprinkled with bits of local knowledge from your guide so that you can take away more than just the views and fresh air.
