Social Responsibility
The Lake District is a wonderful place that I believe we are very lucky to have access to explore. Much like the wider countryside and planet in general, this privilege to enjoy comes with responsibility. I believe strongly in playing our part in this responsibility and I want Inspirit Walking to do its bit wherever possible.
Education:
I understand that many people who are perhaps not regular visitors to the countryside are not aware of things they should or should not be doing to enjoy the countryside responsibly. Rather than a judgemental view, I believe education is vitally important. Having a walking guide is a great way to become more aware of appropriate behaviours whilst outdoors and wider issues facing preservation, conservation and socio-political factors around the countryside. I encourage an open, honest dialogue that allows clients to ask questions when they are not sure and expand their understanding where they desire.
Countryside code:
Following the countryside code is a must for any visitors to the outdoors. I would advise all visitors to the countryside to familiarise themselves with this, which can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-countryside-code/the-countryside-code-advice-for-countryside-visitors
Leave no trace:
“Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but photos”. There are little more disheartening sights than litter during a nature walk. That’s why on top of our groups always leaving no trace ourselves, I always carry a small litter bag on our walks, to pick up anything we see along the way and have a net positive litter impact! I hope this plays a part in not only preserving and maintaining this beautiful place, but helping improve it where possible.
Charity:
£1 from every booking fee I take through Inspirit Walking will be donated to mountain rescue to give back to the Lake District community and help them continue their wonderful work https://www.mountain.rescue.org.uk/
